Writer’s Workshop

January 6, 2015  We are busy writing reviews this week.  We are writing to convince the reader of our favorite video games, movies, restaurants, foods, etc…  Next week, we will begin to review our favorite books.

December 7, 2015  This week we will finish up our non-fiction unit.  Students have been busy writing chapter books!   We will finish with a celebration on Wednesday!  Next week we will begin an opinion writing unit.

November 16, 2015

We are busy writing teaching books!  Today we began to write to write chapter books.  Students started the process by writing a table of contents.  They then chose a booklet to begin writing chapters.

November 9, 2015

We wrote a lot of interesting how to books.  I learned how to mow the lawn, brush my teeth, feed the cat and numerous other things.  We celebrated the end of the how-to unit with traffic light sandwiches.  Ask your child how to make one!

We are currently writing teaching books, also known as informational texts.

October 19, 2015

We finished up our Unit of Study, writing small moments, with an author’s celebration.  Writers read their small moments to their classmates.  We began our Unit of Study, writing how-to books last Monday.  Students’ are busy writing how-to books.  I am learning many things from How to clean my room to How to use mouthwash!

September 1, 2015

We will begin our writer’s workshop week with student’s showing everything they already know about narrative, informational, and opinion writing.  Assessments are an important part of planning curriculum.  Next week, we will begin our Small Moments unit.
